The plot
A night at the CocoCoo Nut Grove nightclub. Ben Birdie (Ben Bernie) leads the house band. In real life, he had a continuous feud with Walter Winchel. A caricature of the great torch singer Helen Morgan is shown singing. The main joke of this story is the crowd being driven to uncontrollable crying by Morgan’s song.

Then, everyone looks towards a spotlight for the next bit of entertainment. The performer on stage is elderly dancer Edna May Oliver, who was known for her vaudeville performances.

GG, John Barrymore, and Gable

In a nice touch, toon John Barrymore is seated next to a toon of his Grand Hotel co-star Greta Garbo! Clark Gable, another Garbo co-star, sits at another table nearby. As usual in these cartoons, Gable’s ear size is wildly exaggerated.
