Garbo's tårar

You can get delcicous little cookies and cakes named after Garbo at Gunnarson's Special Konditori in Götgatan 92/ Södermalm in Stockholm.

The shop was build in 1933 and the saleswoman told us that they often sell Garbo cake's at special ocassions like her deathday or birthday. They sell Garbo's tårar (Garbo's tears), Garbo's kyssar (Garbo's kiss) and another sort. They are delicious, especially Garbo's tårar.

Andy Warhol's Garbo Omelette recipe

In the 1970s, there was a recipe for a "Omelette Greta Garbo". Legendary artist Andy Warhol made a Pop-Art drawing for a cookbook. Later it the recipe was put on a cup and plate.

Garbo Wine

In 2001 the Winery "Domaine Carneros" released about 350 cases of the limited-edition sparkling wine, called the 2001 Greta Garbo Brut Rose. The Bottles of wine bearing images of Greta Garbo were set on sale on October 1, 2005, to commemorate the 100th birthday of Garbo.

This special release had rosé features aromas of raspberries and cassis blended with light floral and exotic spice notes.It has a rich and balanced palate evolves to a long, luscious finish. They were only be available at Napa, California's Domaine Carneros Winery. Each bottle was sold for $42.

Garbo Champagne

In 1999, the California wineyard, Chalone released some limited bottls of Greta Garbo champagne for the millennium. It was a blanc de blancs and available in limited supply. Suggested retail was $42. Garbo's grand nephew, Craig Reisfield, collaborated with Chalone to create a commemorative sparkler in her memory. The fruit is from estate vineyards in Monterey County. The bottle are sold out.

Garbo Cookies

This is a recipe for " Greta Garbo Hermits".

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. each nutmeg and ground allspice
1/2 tsp. ground cardamom
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups chopped candied fruit
1 1/2 cups chopped toasted almonds
2 tsp. each grated orange and lemon rind

In large bowl, beat together butter, shortening, brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy; beat in eggs, one at a time. Beat in vanilla. In separate bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom, baking soda and salt; stir into butter mixture in two additions. Stir in candied fruit, chopped almonds and zests. Drop by tablespoonfuls, about 2-inches apart ontp parchment paper-lined or greased cookie sheets. Bake in 350 (degrees Fahrenheit) oven for about 15 minutes or until golden. Let cool on pans for 5 minutes. Transfer to racks; let cool completely. (Store at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 weeks). Ma kes around 80 cookies.

Garbo Drink/Coffee/Coctail

Several drinks etc. have been named after Garbo.

The Garbo Gargle drink

1 dash Crème de Menthe
1/4 glass orange juice
1/4 glass Grenadine
1/4 glass French Vermouth
1/4 brandy
Method

Shake well and strain into a medium sized glass. Top with a splash of Port Wine.

The Garbo Cocktail

1 oz.Brandy
1 oz. Dry Vermouth
1 oz. Orange Juice
1/4 oz. Grenadine
Dash Creme de Menthe

Combine in a shaker with ice. Mix well and strain into a highball glass.

The Garbo Shot Cocktail

1, Sugar - 1/2 oz.
2, Bacardi Light Rum - 2 oz.
3, Pastis - 1 splash
4, Lime Juice - 1 oz.
5, Grenadine - 1/4 oz.

Combine in a shaker with ice. Mix well and strain into a highball glass.

Garbo's Chocolate Kiss Drink

1. Martell Cognac
2. Dark Creme de Cocoa
3. Hot chocolate

One cup and you'll know you've been kissed!

A funny story.

Here is the funny Story:

When Greta Garbo saw her mug on a giant poster for Garbonzo Beans at Grumman's Chinese Grocery, she decided her agent had gone too far. She canned him, bought out the canning company with every cent she had, and moved to New York where she ecided she could never again show her beautiful face in public. She sold 49% of the bean canning company to the Bush family and lived off her 51% share of Bush's Beans profits for the rest of her life. Now we know the simple and musical legend behind her reclusive lifestyle. Finally, we why the Great Garbo spent 30 years in seclusion. She was writing a cultural masterpiece.
